‘Nomination ceiling’ removed from 457 immigration program

The ceiling on nominations for 457 visas has now been abolished since 14 February 2014, which should make life a whole lot easier for employers looking to nominate and sponsor overseas workers.

When the 457 immigration program underwent a major restructure in July 2013, a cap was placed on the number of positions an employer could sponsor overseas workers to fill.  Meaning if a business had reached its quota of nominations, but still had positions in need of skilled workers, there was very little they could do in the situation.

Executive Employment Growth Driven by ICT Sector

The Information and Communications Technology (ICT) sector outstripped every other business and industry sector in the recruitment of executives, with demand in the sector up by +70% in February compared with last year, according to research from executive search firm EL Consult, reports itwire.com.

Demand for executives across all other sectors was also relatively buoyant, increasing year-on-year by +24%. The engineering sector was the other sector, along with ICT, paving the way in increasing executive employment, with a rise of +35%  in February from a year ago.

The executive employment increases in both ICT and engineering follow gains in the final months of 2013. ICT led the way in February, assisted by a significant pick-up in all of the large states, while the marketing and financial sectors saw the smallest increase, largely due to only small gains in new government positions.

This morning SDP hosted their first Breakfast Briefing, the first of many sessions to provide relevant legislative, compliance and operational information to recruitment organisations.

Today’s session, hosted by Graham Firth, HR Consultant from SDP, focused on an update of the changes to legislation and compliance that impact recruitment agencies, more specifically in the on-hire space.

The New Bullying and Harassment laws that arrived on 1st January, the Work Health Safety obligations and changes to the Privacy laws which will come in to practice March 2014 were discussed in detail.
