SDP Breakfast Briefing – HR and WHS Developments

This morning SDP hosted their first Breakfast Briefing, the first of many sessions to provide relevant legislative, compliance and operational information to recruitment organisations.

Today’s session, hosted by Graham Firth, HR Consultant from SDP, focused on an update of the changes to legislation and compliance that impact recruitment agencies, more specifically in the on-hire space.

The New Bullying and Harassment laws that arrived on 1st January, the Work Health Safety obligations and changes to the Privacy laws which will come in to practice March 2014 were discussed in detail. 

How Recruiters can prepare for the Privacy Law changes taking affect 12th March 2014

  • Review your company’s Privacy Policy
  • Communicate the Policy to anyone whose information you collect
  • Confirm security and access control of the information you collect
  • Enable access by persons whose information you have collected ensuring accuracy
  • For “unsuccessful” applicants, confirm either destruction of their information or maintenance of it with their permission.
  • For employees and on-hire employees retain the information (including all further data gathered during their employment) for a period of 7 years after the termination of their employment.

Where SDP is the managed service provider, service includes WHS induction for employees/contractors.  SDP are now offering an outsourced HR service; we constantly monitor Fair Work and WHS legislations to ensure our clients and ourselves are fully compliant.
